Orange Base Hospital update

Friday 18, March 2011

A farewell celebration was held on Saturday 12 March to say goodbye to the old Orange Base Hospital building, before moving into the new $250-million-dollar facility on Forest Road. The new hospital was officially opened at 6am on Wednesday 16 March.

Mrs Yeomans, an employee at Orange Base Hospital for more than 22 years, commented on how important it is for the community to say goodbye to the hospital before transiting to the new site.

“Many members of our community have grown old with this hospital and supported it through many stages of growth; the first foundation stone was laid in 1866 on Anson Street, the new Western Base Hospital was christened in 1933, and the tower was built in 1970,” said Mrs Yeomans.

“As the building starts to come down over the coming weeks, it’s important for us to remember these milestones and for us all to take ownership of the exceptional new facility on Forest Road, which really is a blessing.”
