Hospital Profile - Mount Gambier Hospital
Friday 15, April 2011Mount Gambier Hospital is the major regional health provider in the South East of South Australia. The health facility contains 78 public beds, 12 day surgery chairs in addition to the 20-bed private hospital also onsite. There are four operating theatres and three delivery suites as well as medical, surgical, high dependency, mental health, maternity and paediatric units.
The Hospital has a salaried medical workforce of Physicians, General Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Paediatricians and Salaried Medical Officers; and a range of resident and visiting Consultants in Obstetrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Renal, ENT, Cardiology, etc.
Located on the South Australian border half way between Adelaide and Melbourne, Mount Gambier is the state’s largest regional city with a local population of approximately 23,000 and serving a regional area of 64,000. This beautiful area is a natural wonder, situated on the slopes of an extinct volcano. Whilst visiting the district, take some time to explore the nearby caves or enjoy a peaceful stroll by the Blue Lake.
