First opening in 1889, Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) is located at Latrobe, on the North West coast of Tasmania. The hospital services an immediate catchment area of over 80,000 people.

The town of Latrobe is steeped in history, with 75 heritage listed buildings in the main street alone. There are a number of local sights and attractions, such as Anvers Chocolate Factory, the Court House Museum and the Lillico Penguin Observation Deck. Mersey Community Hospital is owned and funded by the Federal Government, whilst being operated by the Tasmanian Government. It has since undergone an extensive refurbishment and acquired new equipment.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services website, in 2007/08 there were 22853 presentations to the department of emergency, 6836 inpatient admissions, 43269 outpatient visits and 4130 operations performed at MCH.
